I have been getting a lot of recent worries and concerns from you homeowners about owning a home with a Standard Pacific electrical box in your garage or with older homes, in the Master closet. Inspectors are calling them out to be dangerous. If you go on the Internet and Google, yes, they are scary because fires seem to start easier on these boxes if there is a short. But this is the short and long to it: the Standard Pacific boxes have not been recalled but they are not making them or their parts anymore! It is not that much of a danger in a house that already has one. I have sold many houses with them in the houses. But, if you feel uncomfortable with one, have it replaced. But be careful and don’t get ripped off. Call us and we will give you some recommended electricians that will do it reasonably because it is not cheap to do.
Now when you do decide to sell your older home and you do have a Standard Pacific electrical box, I will tell you there will be some buyers that will ask that you replace it. Just plan ahead for that expense and it won’t come as a surprise to you. I am also saying you do not have to replace it, even with a buyer, but he might walk away then. But again if you have done your research and feel uncomfortable, your buyer will appreciate a new electrical box that does not have such a reputation!
